Job Overview

Arris Composites is seeking an experienced mechanical designer/engineer to join our Berkeley-based R&D team. You are a problem solver with a knack for 3D thinking, experience building working mechanical devices, a deep intuitive sense of Newtonian physics, and a desire for elegance. You should be experienced in developing, prototyping, and improving your designs in close collaboration with a skilled team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and improve novel manufacturing/production equipment.
  • Source, purchase, assemble, and validate new equipment.
  • Maintain, improve, adjust, inspect and sustain existing systems, assemblies and equipment.
  • Hands-on prototyping, fabrication, testing of new systems and processes.
  • Create, organize, and/or refine technical documentation for manufacturing.
  • Work collaboratively with technical and non-technical team members to achieve shared goals.
  • Draft engineering drawings for manufacturing
  • Execute PFMEA’s

Qualifications

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering (or BS with equivalent advanced experience)
  • Solid and demonstrable foundation in material science
  • Experience designing for manufacturing; prototyping, automation, testing
  • Advanced CAD skills including complex assemblies, tolerancing, drawings, BOMs (Solidworks preferred)
  • Experience producing technical user manuals, assembly documentation, and pneumatic schematics.
  • You can sketch well enough to communicate complex ideas
  • Great references
