Visby Medical is an ambitious, well-funded late-stage biotech startup. Driven by a belief that infectious disease diagnosis should be quick, accurate, and accessible to all, Visby has developed the world’s first single-use PCR platform that disrupts the traditional model and redefines the way infectious disease is tested and treated.

SUMMARY:

The Staff Electrical Engineer will use their extensive experience to develop novel, fully disposable PCR-based diagnostic products. This position is for engineers with a thorough understanding of Electrical Engineering precedents, practices, theories and principles who want to take a leadership role developing revolutionary diagnostics tests. This person will be a subject matter expert on an experienced team of Electrical and Systems Engineers working to develop Visby’s product portfolio.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Lead efforts to reduce cost of PCBA through optimizing design, component sourcing and manufacturing.
  • Work with Systems Engineering to understand product requirements, develop Firmware/Electrical design specifications and own Electrical/Firmware design verification testing. Develop and validate design verification test protocol, develop necessary test fixtures/software and execute verification testing.
  • Developing and maintaining firmware for 32 bit ARM, Cortex-M0+ microcontrollers
  • Root cause analyses of failures at both the hardware and firmware level
  • Managing and implementing electrical designs intended for use on multiple Visby products
  • Help define and develop the electrical and system level architecture for future Visby products
  • Research and prototype next generation products that add functionality and broaden the capabilities of Visby products.
  • Contribute to Visby’s IP portfolio
  • Mentor Electrical Engineers
  • Generating DCO’s, managing BOMs and interfacing with vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • B.S., Electrical Engineering with 7-9 years of experience in industry OR
  • M.S., Electrical Engineering with 5-7 years of experience in industry OR
  • Ph.D, Electrical Engineering with 2-4 years of experience in industry

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possesses thorough understanding of precedents, practices, theories and principles of Electrical Engineering
  • Possesses a working knowledge of algorithm development and Computer Vision / Machine Learning (Artificial Intelligence) preferred
  • Excellent communication skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Comfortable performing repetitive tasks and/or motions.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 lbs

SALARY RANGE:

  • $161,850 - $202,313 (Salary range for candidates based in San Jose, CA)
  • Compensation for the role is based on geographical location.
  • Compensation also depends on a number of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
